Trail Running - Meikael Beaudoin Rousseau

Everything I use in daily training and on race day!

Meikael Beaudoin Rousseau's expert gear recommendations on Rendezvu

    Products in this list

    • Cascadia Elite by Brooks — This is THE trail shoe. It's fast, stable, and has just the right amount of cushioning. The carbon plate gives you great energy return without launching you off the trail if your foot lands slanted. It's a great race day shoe for both short and long races, but I also wear it in daily training.
    • High Point 5" 2-in-1 Short 2.0 by Brooks — This is the perfect short for carrying everything you need without the hassle of a separate belt or vest. Personally, I've gone out for runs with a 300ml soft flask, iPhone, and gels all stuffed into the integrated belt and never had any bounce issues. It REALLY holds everything securely and is extremely versatile! It's my short of choice for 50k trail races and long days in the mountains.
    • High Point Short Sleeve 2.0 by Brooks — This is my go-to running shirt. It's lightweight, breathable, and the fabric is pleasantly stretchy.
    • ElliptiGO® 11R by ElliptiGO — The best cross training tool for runners!! Use code Meika10 for 10% off all new bikes. I started using the ElliptiGO after getting bilateral knee surgery and it has been a keystone in my training since. I've notched several PRs while doing over 50% of my training volume on this and fully believe it makes me a better runner. Even when fully healthy, supplementing running with the ElliptiGO minimizes pounding on your body and allows you to train a higher hourly volume if you want!
    • Catamount Agil by Brooks — The lightest, fastest, and most nimble trail shoe I've ever worn! This is my shoe of choice on race day for everything from vertical kilometers to 30k trail races. It fits like a sock and strikes the perfect balance of letting you feel the ground while protecting your feet from rocks. You can really trust your footwork. It also has a plate so you get great energy return!
    • Ghost Trail by Brooks — A really great hybrid shoe for mixed-surface runs! It feels like a fast road trainer, but you can confidently use it on trails that aren't too technical.
    • Naked® Running Band by Naked Sports Innovations — My favorite running belt! You can carry tons of stuff and it truly does not bounce.
    • Movement 8” Half Tight by Brooks — These just make you feel fast! They're light, have just the right amount of compression, and great pockets if you need them!
    • Canopy Packable Jacket by Brooks — I like to wear this jacket for Nordic skiing and for any runs/rides that are cold and windy. It's also great to have in the back of a vest/belt for big days in the mountains when I expect colder weather at higher elevations. It's not a rain jacket, but for any mildly bad weather it strikes a great balance of offering some protection while being lightweight/unrestrictive.

  1. COROS APEX 2 Pro Black by COROS — I've had this watch for several years and am continually impressed by the battery life. I've taken it on multi-day fastpacking trips with GPS on for most of the day, and it has never let me down. It's simple to use, doesn't overwhelm you with unnecessary data, and the activity screens are completely customizable.
  2. ULTRATRAIL FX.ONE SUPERLITE by Leki — I got these to transfer load from my legs to my arms so I could run more while rehabbing a knee injury, but it turns out they also help you run faster up steep climbs! I really like the fact that the hand strap can be easily disconnected from the poles while running. This makes it easy to quickly transition from using poles to stowing them in your belt/vest (or vice versa) as the terrain changes.
  3. Lightweight Packable Hat 2.0 by Brooks — Super light and keeps the sun and sweat out of your eyes!
  4. Canopy Pant by Brooks — Lightweight, easy to move in, protects you from the elements.
  5. High Point Waterproof Jacket 2 by Brooks — Will protect you from water and wind! A must have on multi-day trips or bigger day trips with uncertain weather.
  6. The Original HDPV Polarized Sunglasses by Pit Viper — Super durable and doesn't slide off your face when you are on the move!
  7. Ghost Lite Quarter 2-Pack by Brooks — I really like quarter socks because they provide what feels like the optimal balance of protection and lightness. These are light, comfy, and I've never had any blister issues.
  8. HydraPak 42 mm Filter Cap by HydraPak — Ultralight water filter that conveniently connects right to your HydraPak soft flasks!
  9. SkyFlask™ Speed 500ml by HydraPak — This 500ml handheld soft flask gives you a lot of versatility. My preference is to have it stowed in the back of my belt, but you can also run with it in your hand. It's super easy to refill at aid stations with the SpeedFill cap. I usually start races with one of these full of drink mix and plan to refill as needed at aid stations
  10. Elite 3" Split Short by Brooks — Lightweight and comfortable split shorts! ˝Great for racing or everyday training
  11. Cascadia 5” Short by Brooks — A lightweight short with LOTS of small pockets. Ideal for when you need to bring a couple small items (keys/gels) with you on your run.
  12. Luxe Long Sleeve by Brooks — A very soft and warm long sleeve for colder runs.
